Melissa and Jimmy were married this past weekend in his family’s backyard in Glendale, Arizona. I am obviously partial (Dustin and I were married in his parent’s backyard!) but I think backyard weddings are so dang cute and cozy! Melissa and I go way back, we actually met in high school newspaper class so it was extra personal for me to get to be there for her special day!
Melissa and Jimmy have been together over six years and met back in college while they were both working at a sushi restaurant.
Jimmy pulled off one of the most unique proposals I’ve seen in a long time! He made a fake commercial and played it during the Super Bowl. At the end asked her to marry him, I was full on sobbing!
From the instant I saw these two as a couple, you could just tell there was this comfortability and deep-seated love. During their ceremony, they talked about how the other felt like ‘home’ and they knew they could always be themselves around each other.
Melissa’s maid-of-honor, Alyssa, also offered some sweet words during her speech that got water-works going. A quote from the movie ‘Shall We Dance’ – “All these promises that we make and we break…why is it that you think people get married? We need a witness to our lives. There’s a billion people on the planet….. I mean, what does any one life mean? But in a marriage, you’re promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things….. all of it, all the time, every day. You’re saying ‘Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go unwitnessed because I will be your witness”.
Melissa and Jimmy – I can’t thank you enough for letting me be a part of your big day! You have such an amazing foundation for a wonderful marriage and I can’t wait to witness it over the years. Don’t be strangers!
